Sam Jones is an associate with Shuttleworth & Ingersoll, P.L.C. He focuses primarily in commercial litigation, construction and design law, tort and insurance law, and antitrust law.
He represents both general and subcontractors in construction-related litigation as well as engineers and architects in professional negligence actions.
Additionally, he has experience advising clients on a variety of antitrust issues including communication with competitors, the legality of trade organizations, tiered pricing structures, and the anti-competitive effect of certain types of advertising.
- Construction Practice:
- Assisting property owners who have been damaged as a result of faulty construction or design.
- Representing contractors who have been unable to collect payments owed to them.
- Defending construction industry members who have been named as defendants in lawsuits.
- Working with engineers and architects who have been accused of professional negligence.
- Insurance Defense:
- Representing individuals and businesses in small claims actions. Capable of effectively and efficiently advocating the rights of individuals in a venue where finding a just result can be difficult.
- Pursuing the subrogation rights of companies who have been forced to expend their own resources where an accident resulted from the fault of another.
- Conducting legal research to provide clear answers to difficult questions regarding a wide spectrum of legal and factual issues.
- Antitrust Work:
- Advising clients regarding what types of information can be shared with suppliers, customers and competitors.
- Reviewing pricing structures to confirm that a client has not inadvertently violated an antitrust principle.
- Attending the prestigious ABA Antitrust Division Spring Meeting, the foremost antitrust conference in the nation attended by over 2,000 attorneys. Sam was one of only three Iowa attorneys in attendance at this year’s meeting.
- Drafting the SI Business Bulletin which advises manufacturing and distribution clients on a variety of antitrust related topics.
- Experienced assisting clients on a wide spectrum of unusual and specific legal issues.
- Assisting landowners who do not have access to their property. Iowa law permits landlocked property owners to obtain a right of access to their property; however, obtaining that private right of access is complicated and can be very expensive. Sam's experience in this area of the law allows clients to pursue their rights for less cost than would otherwise be possible.
- Working with individuals to remove or rehabilitate an unfavorable criminal history from their permanent records. Iowa has permit individuals who have been convicted of certain classes of criminal offenses to have that criminal record expunged. Additionally, Sam has assisted individuals who have lost constitutional liberties as a result of a criminal conviction to regain those constitutional rights.
